Virgin or boozalicious, either way I think you’ll love this frothy summer drink. To me, it tastes somewhere between a Creamsicle and an Orange Julep. There was an Orange Julep stand at the Fairview Mall (Toronto) when I was growing up, and since the mall was a good 30-minute drive from home, it was a real treat when Father would buy me one. I loved the frothiness of it – didn’t everybody? It was a mystery then; I now know the secret is egg whites. This recipe takes me back, but now I’m old enough to add a healthy splash of vanilla vodka to it – no trip to the mall required! Now, I’m going to be a stickler about this one – if you don’t have eggs fresh from a backyard lady and you don’t have freshly squeezed orange juice, DON’T bother! You will not love it! Seriously.
Ingredients
2 free-run eggs
2 cups (475 mL) cold freshly squeezed orange juice
2 Tbsp (30 mL) runny honey
2 oz (60 mL) chilled vanilla vodka (optional)
Directions
Put all ingredients into a blender and blend until frothy. Garnish with a little slice of orange and serve immediately.
Nada’s Tips & Tricks: Change up the honey and vodka flavours to make different takes on this drink. Add a little crushed ice for a slushie.
