from Teatime Around the World
Here’s one of our after school go-to’s (especially in winter). I recommended a herbal tea (kid friendly) and a very simple recipe where Canadian ingredients can be used.
Mint & Lemon Tea with Honey
Ingredients
Fresh mint leaves (about 1 small handful)
1 lemon, sliced
Canadian honey (to taste)
Fresh water
Directions
Bring water to a gentle boil.
Place mint leaves and lemon slices into a teapot. Pour hot water over top and let steep for 5 minutes.
Strain into cups and sweeten with a little Canadian honey. Serve warm, not hot.

Cheesy Toast Strips
Ingredients
2–3 slices bread (whole wheat or sourdough work well)!
Canadian cheddar cheese, grated or sliced (or favourite Canadian cheese)
Butter
Directions
Lightly butter one side of each slice of bread. Place cheese on the unbuttered side.
Toast in a pan, oven, or toaster oven until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.
Let cool slightly, then cut into finger-sized strips. Goes great with sliced Canadian apples.
Nada’s Tips & Tricks: For the tea, play around with the herbs and try flavoured honey. You can also make it an iced tea for a refreshing afternoon drink. For the crisps, use different apples, cheeses or add a dollop of maple mustard or hot sauce. Sprinkle various seasoning blends or nut mixture on top for an extra pop.
