Ingredients
1 lb (450 g) lean ground beef
1 tsp (5 mL) minced fresh ginger
1 tsp (5 mL) minced fresh garlic
½ tsp sweet paprika
½ tsp minced dried or fresh chili pepper
½ tsp black pepper 1 tsp salt (optional)
Flour for rolling out the dough
1 lb (454 g) store-bought pizza dough (or follow your favorite recipe and make your own)
⅓ cup (80 mL) ketchup, or to taste
1½ cups (6 oz) grated mozzarella cheese, or to taste, as determined by your level of cheesiness
½ green pepper, thinly sliced
½ medium onion, thinly sliced
Olive oil for brushing
Directions
1. Place a frying pan over medium heat and add the ground beef. Cook, stirring, until it has lost its pink color, about 3 minutes. Add ginger, garlic, paprika, chili pepper, black pepper and salt. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is cooked through, and the garlic is translucent, about 10 minutes.
2. Heat oven to 450 °F (230 °C).
3. Sprinkle a bit of flour on a clean surface. Roll out the dough into an oblong/oval piece, approximately the length from your wrist to your elbow. It should be narrow, like 6 inches (15 cm).
4. Spread ketchup evenly on top of the dough, leaving a border of about ¾ inch around the edges.
5. Sprinkle some of the ground beef mixture on top of the ketchup. (Save the rest of the ground beef to make more pizzas.)
6. Sprinkle your desired amount of cheese.
7. Top with green peppers and onion—as much or as little as you like.
8. Brush the edges of the crust with a bit of olive oil. This will make them crispy and yummy.
9. Bake until the crust is golden brown and has risen and the cheese is melted, 12 to 15 minutes.
10. EAT to find the truth of how delicious ketchup pizza actually is.
