Frosty Dog Bites

from Spoil the Dog

These are yogurt-based treats that can be added to fun Christmas or winter molds and put in the freezer.

Ingredients

750g natural yogurt

1 tbsp ginger

1 tbsp cinnamon

1 cup pumpkin puree

1 cup of carob chips

Directions

Whisk together yogurt and pumpkin puree.

Mix in ginger and cinnamon.

Add carob chips into the yogurt. You can add the chips whole for extra crunch and texture, or melt the chips in a microwave safe bowl at 20 second intervals until melted before mixing in.

Pour mixture into Christmas molds or ice cube trays and place in the freezer for 45 minutes to an hour until frozen.

Other health notes:

Both spices can be beneficial for dogs! Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory that may offer relief from inflamed joints due to arthritis. Cinnamon is also an anti-inflammatory, and may boost energy, help circulation and improve health and function.

Pumpkin is good for digestion, canned pumpkin (not the sugary, spicy pie filling) is loaded with fiber and beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A.

Unlike chocolate, carob is non-toxic for dogs and caffeine free. It is a super food for dogs with protein, fibre and many other vitamins that can benefit their health. Carob can be found in the baking section of many grocery stores; we also sell carob chips in store at Spoil the Dog Bakery.

Nada’s Tips & Tricks: Once you have this yummy (bark, bark!) recipe down pat, insert other ingredients your puppy will like, i.e. peanut butter, apples, coconut, etc. Just ensure its safe for them to consume…see Spoil the Dog suggestions to be sure!
