Butter boards are an exciting new take on a traditional bread-and-butter platter. They are easy to put together and are an affordable alternative to charcuterie spreads. The colorful display of butter is a real showstopper! Each boar is completely unique, with customizable ingredients. This recipe is a base structure to follow when making a butter board. Serve with fresh bread.
Ingredients
1 cup garlic butter, softened
2 tsp chopped edible flowers
1 tsp chopped fresh herbs
Zest from 1 lemon or other citrus fruit
Honey
Optional ingredients:
Pumpkin seeds
Roasted garlic cloves
Prosciutto
Almond slivers
Cracked black pepper
Figs
Directions
Liberally spread the butter onto a serving platter.
Sprinkle the edible flowers and herbs evenly across the spread. Add any optional ingredients, if using. Top with the zest and drizzle with some honey.
Nada’s Tips & Tricks: I make a few variations of the base recipe and put them on three or four different platters…all with their own type of bread or cracker. Change up the presentation with logs, festive cookie cutter shapes, etc. Add other ingredients like chopped jalapeno or chipotle peppers, some funky herb blends like za’atar or dukkah. Edible flowers may not be in season for Thanksgiving or Christmas except in flower shops…use colorful chopped vegetables to give the presentation a little punch.
