Butter Tart Slice

from Not-So-Sweetie Pie

A family favourite from author Maureen Fergus…enjoy!

Ingredients

Base:             

1 cup butter + a bit

4 tbsp sugar

3 cups flour

Filling:           

3 cups brown sugar

½ cup melted butter

4 beaten eggs

2 tbsp vinegar

2 tsp vanilla

I cup chopped nuts (optional)

1 cup raisins

Directions

Base:

Preheat oven to 350˚F.

Cream butter and sugar; blend in flour. Add a little more butter if it doesn’t seem like it’s sticking together quite enough.

Pat into 9×13 glass dish. Bake 5 minutes.

Cool on a wire rack.

Filling:

Combine all ingredients except nuts and raisins.

Mix well.

Add nuts and raisins.

Pour over base.

Bake for 30-40 min or until set.

Nada’s Tips & Tricks: A great alternative to tarts…you can play with this recipe by adding a bit of maple syrup or adding different spices like cardamom or allspice. Easy and a very Canadian yummy dessert!
