Early settler and bachelor George Harvey was a veteran of the First World War. This recipe was named in his honour.
Ingredients
3 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
½ cup milk
½ cup water
1 egg
Directions
Preheat oven to 350F/177C.
In one mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. In a second bowl, mix together the milk, water and egg.
Pour wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well. Add water until it looks like cake dough and pour into a greased pan.
Bake about 1 to 1 ½ hours, depending on the thickness of the dough.
Nada’s Tips & Tricks: You can add ingredients to this basic recipe like raisins or dry fruit for a sweet Bannock; or chopped olives and herbs for a more savoury version.
