Mutala’s warmth and passion for Ukrainian cuisine shines through her writing, making the cookbook feel like a conversation with a beloved family member. The recipes transport me to my baba’s kitchen as well as my mother’s. One of the most popular dishes was Borsch. Make it yourself in our Recipe section but use it as a base…add whatever vegetables or meat you like to make it authentically your own. We also provide instructions for Sauerkraut (Kapustka) in our Recipe section as any Eastern European would have a dish of it on the table at most meals. What a great way to utilize both cabbage and beets as they become abundant this fall season!
