Celebrating Food Day Canada 2024

On August 3, 2024, Food Day Canada will once again bring Canadians together to celebrate the country’s rich culinary heritage. This year’s event promises to be a spectacular showcase of local ingredients, innovative recipes, and the vibrant food culture that makes Canada a culinary destination.

Food Day Canada, founded by the late culinary icon Anita Stewart, continues to honor her legacy by promoting sustainable practices and the bounty of Canadian agriculture. The event encourages everyone to engage with local food producers, farmers, and chefs to truly appreciate the flavors of Canada. To celebrate Anita’s contribution, go to our Giveaway section and win her book Anita Stewart’s Canada: The Food, the Recipes, the Stories. A treasure of recipes!

When I worked for Canadian Living magazine, I came across Anita’s recipe for Peach Chutney and made it for many years. I resurrected that recipe for you to try…check it out in our Recipe section…so tasty and versatile! Add it to hamburgers and hot dogs, or top your next pork chop or lamb kabob, and even the next omelet – perfect for any occasion.

This year, the Food Day Canada festivities will span coast to coast, with both virtual and in-person events designed to include all Canadians. Whether you’re a home cook or a seasoned chef, there’s something for everyone. The official website, Food Day Canada, offers a plethora of resources, including recipes that highlight regional specialties, tips for sourcing local ingredients, and information about participating restaurants and events. To get you started, we thought the Garden Pesto would be a great addition to your summer repertoire in our Recipe section. This refreshing must-have is provided by Chef Cara Tegler, Recipe Developer & Culinary Educator. https://www.instagram.com/carashealthycravings/
